Petri Dishes

Dabbling in the ugly

Students were asked to consider the aesthetic value of a series of petri dishes and their moldy contents. They found unexpected color combinations, fuzz and pile, and curvy circular formations.

Students drew compositional inspiration from their chosen petri dish examples and also noticed how just one chance moldy experiment could become a color story on which to base a collection. What follows are a few examples of their petri explorations.
